Product Description

Coral Paddy Shield (Pretilachlor 30% EC) is a pre-emergence herbicide formulated as an Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC), belonging to the α-Chloroacetanilide chemical group. It is formulated with Fenclorim (Safener 10%) which protects the rice crop from injury, allowing the product to be applied safely to control annual grasses, sedges and broadleaf weeds in both direct-seeded and transplanted paddy.

Mode of Action

• Coral Paddy Shield is a Group 15 (α-Chloroacetanilide) pre-emergence herbicide.
• It is absorbed by the shoots of germinating weeds and inhibits cell division, preventing normal growth so seedlings fail to emerge.
• The Fenclorim safener allows rice seedlings to metabolize the herbicide safely, so the crop is not injured while susceptible weeds are controlled.
• It is effective against weeds as they germinate — it does not control weeds already established.

Directions for Use

• Apply as a uniform spray calculated on the basis of 6 knapsack sprayer loads of 16 L water per acre.
• Drain standing water from the field one day before spraying.
• Re-flood the field 1 day after spraying.
• Maintain a water depth of 2–3 cm (adjusted to seedling height) for about 4–5 days after re-flooding.
• Wait at least 12 hours after spraying before re-entering the field.
• The field should remain free of rain for at least 6 hours after spraying.

Recommended Rate

Target Crops

Paddy — both direct-seeded and transplanted rice.

Target Weeds

Annual grasses, sedges and broadleaf weeds germinating in paddy fields.

Precautions

• Wear gloves, a face mask, goggles, a long-sleeved shirt, long trousers and a hat during mixing and spraying.
• Avoid direct contact of the spray with eyes and skin.
• Do not eat, chew betel, smoke or drink while handling or spraying the product.
• Wash hands thoroughly with soap after handling.
• Wash contaminated clothing thoroughly after use.
• Do not spray against the wind.

First Aid

• Remove contaminated clothing immediately.
• Wash affected skin thoroughly with soap and water.
• If in eyes, rinse gently with plenty of water, holding eyelids open, for several minutes.
• If inhaled, move the person to fresh air.
• If swallowed, rinse mouth with water. Do not induce vomiting unless advised by a doctor.
• Seek medical advice and treatment in all cases.

Antidote

No specific antidote. Treat symptomatically according to signs of poisoning.

Storage & Disposal

• Store in the original tightly closed container in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place.
• Do not reuse empty containers for any purpose.
• Bury empty containers deep in the ground, away from water sources; do not wash spray equipment or empty containers in rivers, streams or ponds.
• Do not burn or dump. Keep away from food, animal feed, seed and fertilizer.
